You did it! Checkered flag is yours! You hit the scales and now there is a microphone in your face, what do you do?

Track announcers are amazing, they specifically ask leading questions so you have things to talk about! Take the opportunity. Talk about the race you just ran, talk about how you got to where you are today, talk about any milestones you just hit, but most importantly thank your crew and sponsors!

When you thank your sponsors, know who they are! Do not read off of your car, do not go down the line of people standing in front of you, do not give yourself the out and say “and anyone I am forgetting.”

Your sponsors work hard for you. Let’s break down a $50 marketing partner; The average American earns $27.16 per hour. That means that sponsor worked 1 hour and 50 mins for you. Now start looking at $500 and $1,000 sponsorships, you are looking at between 18 and 36 hours that they are working for you. While this does oversimplify it, it is a good reminder of what our marketing partners do for us. Don’t disregard that by not mentioning them.

In the heat of the moment, with adrenaline and excitement, things will happen so you have to know your supporters are forwards and backwards.
