Tyler Peet Heads to the Eastern States 50!

Middletown, NY: October 23, 2020: Look who is in the show? On an unseasonably warm fall afternoon, the 59th annual Eastern States Weekend kicked off! With safety measures in place for COVID, the track loaded in over 200 cars for the chance at under 40 starting spots in each divisions.

Tyler Peet and his crew unloaded a pretty good car into hot laps setting down a 23.99 best lap. The driver out of Pennsylvania has his head held high, coming off his 2nd season (and career) win which came after a great battle at Big Diamonds Speedway’s Diamond Nationals.

Times fell off for the entire field in time trials which saw the 12t hit the top 20! With a 24.304, TP brought the 12t home 19th out of 75 drivers. The top 6 in time trials were locked into the show!

The next attempt to make the field was the heat race. Peet secured a 3rd place starting spot in the 5th heat. While the flow of Eastern States is fast-paced, it also lends itself to a hurry up and wait mindset. Tyler sat in the 12t machine in staging for about 30 mins. Drivers seem to have varying answers when you ask what do they do or think about during those moments during the calm before the storm. Some drivers will sheepishly tell you they take a nap, other will talk about how they run through set up changes they made and what they expect the car to do. Then there are those like Tyler who at 17 years old, is just hoping to turn the best laps and find a way to move forward on the track!

When the green flag dropped, Tyler nosed the 12t to the bumper of the 33 machine of Matt Janczuk and battled for the runner up spot right from the start. Unfortunately, the yellow flag would slow the pace and restack the field for the another go. After a short battle, of green, yellow, green, yellow, the field settled down and Peet was able to keep the 12t in 3rd securing a 23rd starting spot in the Eastern States 50! “I am really excited to make it in through a heat race.

I’d like to thank my sponsors and family for all of the help. I am really anxious to get working on the car in order to find more speed for tomorrow!” – Tyler Peet

A few others weighed in on Tyler’s successful night:

“That is a pure “Hell Yeah’ Moment! ESW is such a hard race to make for really any driver so him and his team should be real proud of themselves. It’s a huge accomplishment for sure!” – Stephen Kneer, Sportsman Driver, Team Full 8

“Tyler has been improving every week and has been learning as a driver and also on the set up side of things. He is only going to get better from here on out!” – Alex Yankowski, Modified Driver

“I could not be prouder to have Tyler as a representative of Team Full 8. He has shown wisdom and restraint beyond his years and the passion he has for his sport is almost palpable. The curveballs and hard luck thrown his way this year would have beaten down a lesser team, but the “get back in the saddle” attitude we have seen from Tyler and his crew have taught us all a lot this year. The comeback is always stronger than the setback! Good Luck, elbows up, and go get ‘em!” – Dani Seipp, Owner, Full 8 Sports
