MK3 Tackles SDW!

Friday at Super Dirt Week means sportsmans hit the track! Among them, for the first time, you will find Marty Kelly III. After a good year at Devil’s Bowl Speedway finishing 12th in points with five top 5s and a feature win to his credit, MK3 decided to give the crown jewel a try at the Clay Palace!

The 50th annual Super Dirt Week is in its 6th year at Oswego Speedway after the forced venue change from the historic Moody Mile at the New York State Fairgrounds in 2016. Each year, after the completion of labor day weekend, contractors begin trucking in over 500 loads of clay to cover the ⅝ mile track in order to prepare for the big event, the Billy Whittaker Cars 200!

M&M Racing had a disappointing opener at Weedsport and shifted focus to Brewerton and Oswego setups.

For the second event of the week, the 357 hit Brewerton where Kelly III would time trial 7th out of the 12 in his group and cross the line 6th for the heat race. Unfortunately, they came up short in the consi but quickly recognized they needed to make more aggressive setup changes when going from Oswego to Brewerton. An interesting part of Super Dirt Week is that drivers are changing tracks and working their hand at setup changes on the fly.

“It’s a tough week. You try to stay on top of it the best you can. We’ve had some good help this week with Trevor, Shayla, Tyler, and Kurtis, so that helps a lot. We’re glad to be challenged with tough competition and some new tracks. I think we’re going to be good. We’ve been good in practice and I think we know how to get better.” - Marty Kelly III

The sportsman hit the track today with time trials and heat races to follow in preparation for the Chevrolet Performance 75 on Sunday afternoon. Catch all the action live on DirtVision starting at 1:45pm.

Marty would also like to thank Steve at Howard’s Garage, DKM Fabrication, JEC Racing Enterprises, TW Ferguson Corp, the Jelley Family, and his whole family! Stay tuned for updates throughout the weekend!
